Epi: Overcoming Obstacles

Spanish filmmaker Álvaro Crespo’s documentary WATER WEARS ROCK (Agua desgasta roca), the extraordinary story of Alberto, a mountain climber who suffers from multiple sclerosis since he was 17 years old. Against his own limitations, his goal is to climb a peak rising at over 8,000 feet: the Naranjo de Bulnes in Asturias, Spain. The director, a lover of nature and climbing, writes: I met Alberto shortly after joining the climbing group of Madrid Vertical in 2016. At first glance, he seemed very active, healthy and above all very dedicated to this sport. When we became friends, I learned about his history and the illness. I was surprised by his positive attitude. I see in Alberto’s story an opportunity to show people the same thing that I see every day when I climb by his side: His way of life is a message in itself—the desire to live!
